Remove Metadata Online is a free, privacy-first project built by Simon to help people check and clean hidden file metadata before sharing images, PDFs, videos, audio, and documents online.
Why Simon built this site
Simon started this project after trying to find a simple, free, and trustworthy metadata remover online. Most tools were unclear, full of confusing limits, asked for registration too early, or did not explain what happened to uploaded files.
So he built Remove Metadata Online for regular people: students sending documents, creators uploading images, small businesses sharing PDFs, and anyone who wants to reduce private metadata without learning command-line tools.
The goal is practical privacy. The site shows what a file may reveal, cleans supported metadata when safely possible, and reminds users that uploaded and processed files are temporary.
Privacy First
Files are processed in your browser whenever possible. When server processing is needed, uploaded and cleaned files are temporary and are automatically deleted after 5 minutes.
Built To Be Useful
The site focuses on real metadata workflows: view, remove, edit, compare, and report. Each tool explains what it can clean and what still needs a human check.
Free With Fair Limits
The tools are free for normal use and do not require signup. To keep the service fair and protect the server from automated abuse, some actions are rate-limited, including a 5-attempt fair-use limit on sensitive download activity.
What this site is for
Most people do not realize how much information can be embedded in the files they share every day. A photo may include GPS metadata. A PDF may include an author name. A Word document may keep comments or revision clues. An AI-generated image may carry prompt or workflow data.
Remove Metadata Online exists to make those checks easier. It does not promise that every possible hidden field can always be removed from every file. Instead, it gives people a clear way to inspect files, clean supported metadata when safely possible, and download a safer copy.
The service stays free because privacy tools should be accessible. The fair-use limits are there to stop spam, bots, and heavy automated traffic from hurting the experience for everyone else.
